To all the Moms, people who carry children, women identifying folks doing the work, let’s be rebellious.

What if we said enough? We are enough. We do enough. We offer enough.

I call my sister to “virtually slap me” sometimes when I’m having mom guilt for doing anything that nourishes me outside of my “mom role”. My sister reminds me of all the work we put into raising children, for working, building homes, nourishing community, taking care of (in my case) a business, juggling the duality of being Suzanna while also “being” so many different things.

But the truth is, all the things are me and I am all the things. We can’t delete parts of ourselves to be better moms. I don’t believe in self sacrificing parts of myself in the name of the children.

I do believe in striving to show my son what a family can look like by showing up, creating community and continuing to “become” more of myself. As a mother I didn’t stop being Suzanna.

So let’s say enough. You are enough the way you are. Mom, you don’t have to have it all figured out. We are becoming one step at a time. Let’s take the pressure off, even for one day and just let things fall apart if they need to. Maybe we will be surprised and watch them fall into a different, new space, with curiosity.

To the children (and I am going to do this too), this mother’s days I challenge you all to see your mom for who they are. What can you tell mom that you’ve never said? What do you see Mom doing that has never been acknowledged? Who is Mom outside of your Mother? Can you find a new way to celebrate the moms that have impacted your life?

I hope you find Mom kickass flowers this year. I think ours are the best but if Mom really loves red roses please go find those, because finding what speaks to them is the point.

Growing up my nana had azaleas growing in her front yard.

This is a flower I connect to my heritage.

When I see them I think of Debbie cakes, the pier at my grandparents house, mucking around in the marsh, finding crabs, feeling my feet dragging through oyster shells and the smell of salt water in the air.

I think of my Nana’s sweet presence. I see her mulling around the house caring for everyone around her while she cared to herself. I always loved that she took naps, woke up everyday, put her lipstick on and pinned her hair. She wore outfits, even though they were patched a million times and she never wanted new shoes but duct taped her very old ones.

Sometimes I wonder what she would have think about my life now navigating the world as a single mom, running my business, living in New York, seeing me use azaleas in flower designs…

Nana died a couple years ago but every time I see azalea I think of her and wonder where she is now. I hope she returned as the feeling of this flower 🌺

Come by for wine by @henrysbk, snacks and of course lots of flowers. This event is free! Swing by with the kids (I’ll be bringing mine!), your lover, a friend or come solo to experience the world of miniature art. Featured will be 24 pieces by 18 artists from 10 countries!!

What is Solidarity Sunday you ask? Launched back in 2020 we created a community event that supports nonprofits and mutual aid groups right here in New York City.

Sometimes the world can be overwhelming dire but we can’t give up hope. Our focus is to redirect energy in our direct community to create a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

Each one of our staff members has chosen an organization that reflects work they admire and feel is contributing to a more just world.

How can you get involved? Easy? Buy flowers! That’s right, all the flowers, our labor and love is donated on top of your financial contributions for the bouquets. We donate 💯 of the proceeds each month.

We are offering 15 bouquets with a suggested donation of $40. Our goal is to donate at least $500 per event. Bouquets can be picked up Sunday May 5th while supplies last.

💐This month we are contributing to @okofarms 💐

Keep your eyes peeled through the spring and summer for more community events and if you are a vendor that wants to get involved we are actively looking for ways to expand this event with food/art/activities.

The Bud vase bar will be open Saturday and Sunday May 11th and 12th.
